Wind and snow headed Cortland's way

Expect 3 to 7 inches of snow and winds gusting 45 mph today and into Monday, the National Weather Service announced as it declared a winter weather advisory until 11 a.m. Monday.

It also issued a wind advisory from 5 p.m. today until 8 p.m. Monday.

The heaviest accumulation will be in a band from Auburn to Syracuse, but most of Cortland and Tompkins County can expect 2 to 3 inches.

The front will bring snow squalls through late afternoon, followed by heavier snow into Monday morning. The winds will be greatest tonight and into Monday.

With the heavy snow, the wind could bring power outages, and trees in thawing ground may suffer greater damage, the weather service said.

Expect a high temperature of 35 degrees today and Monday with a low of 25 overnight.
