Police in Cortland County seek a missing SUNY Cortland professor, last seen about 9:40 a.m. Monday on Tompkins Street in Cortland, Cortland County sheriff's officers said.

Muteb Alqahtani, 40, of Cortlandville is about 5-foot-8, of Middle Eastern descent, with dark curly hair and beard.

Alqahtani is an associate professor in SUNY Cortland's childhood and early childhood education department.

Police said they have no reason to believe Alqahtani is in danger, but people with information on his location can call 607-753-3311.

College spokesman Fred Pierce said university police checked Alqahtani's office, but other agencies are leading the search.

"At this point, we don't know much more and do not know if there is a reason to be concerned," Pierce said in an email. "We are monitoring the situation closely and hoping for a positive outcome."
