Crush hold on for third straight win

The Cortland Crush won their third straight game Thursday, as they defeated the visiting Rochester Ridgemen 6-3 at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex. Cortland scored once in each the bottom of the second and third, then scored twice in both the fourth and fifth, before Rochester scored all three runs in the final two frames.

Ryan Dando tabbed as next Tully AD

Ryan Dando has been a part of the Tully community for most of his life. He graduated from Tully High School in 1996. He returned to the school as a physical education teacher and has been coaching the boys basketball team for the last 19 years. Now, Dando is the new athletic director at Tully High School after Don McClure retired following the 2021-22 school year.

Cortland alum Lalonde tabbed as Red Wings new coach

The NHL’s Detroit Red Wings are now led by a Red Dragon. Former SUNY Cortland goalie Derek Lalonde was named the team’s head coach June 30, following a four-year stint as an assistant coaches with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lalonde helped the Lightning earn four straight postseason berths, highlighted by back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021 and a trip to the finals this past season.

The success of the Cortland baseball team in 2022 can be attributed towards a lot of different people and with a team full of notable seniors and upperclassmen, a freshman still stood out. If Caden Albright’s freshman season is any indication of what is to come, the Purple Tigers baseball program is in good hands for years to come.

The Syracuse Salt Cats scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning, putting the Cortland Crush in an 8-1 hole they couldn’t climb out of en route to a 13-8 loss at Onondaga Community College.

For the first time in five meetings this season, the Cortland Crush defeated the Syracuse Spartans 9-1 Wednesday night at Onondaga Community College.

Crush split doubleheader with Hornell

The Cortland Crush moved to 14-6-1 on the season as they split a doubleheader against the Hornell Steamers with a 12-1 victory in game one and an 8-7 loss in game two Tuesday at Maple City Park.

Crush win three straight over weekend

After suffering a loss Thursday to the Syracuse Spartans, the Cortland Crush won three games in two days over the weekend with a pair of wins Saturday over the Olean Oilers and a win Sunday against the Sherrill Silversmiths.

Cornell University junior Logan Hanchett has been working to restore the baseball field at Preble Park. He’s not just a wide-eyed college student looking to fix up the field to say he did it. He wants to bring summer league baseball back to Preble.
