School threat proves unfounded

A number of greater Cortland area school districts locked down Wednesday after reports of a threat of a school shooting — which later proved false — Cortland County sheriff's officers said.

Police received a call Wednesday that a person who had just left a Cincinnatus store had made a comment about a possible school shooting.

Sheriff's officers and Cortland County dispatchers contacted school officials in Cortland and surrounding counties to notify them of the threat.

Police found the person who mde the comment, and during an interview, police concluded that reports of a threat were inaccurate and not threats were made about any school, police said.
