Polls opening today for general election Nov. 7

Never mind the even-numbered years, when voters pick presidents and governors, senators and Assembly members. Odd-numbered years, such as 2023, are when voters decide what their neighborhoods, their towns and their counties will look like for the coming future.

Early voting begins today, and the General Election is Nov. 7.

Greater Cortland area voters will decide the balance of the Cortland County Legislature, and maybe Cortland Common Council, too. They’ll choose whether to keep incumbent Mayor Scott Steve or go with challenger Luke Stevenson.

Cortlandville voters will decide whether to eliminate one of its two part-time justice positions, although the decision to put the matter on the ballot is the subject of a lawsuit in state Supreme Court. Voters in Virgil and Cincinnatus have propositions to decide, too. And voters across the state have two measures on the ballot to consider.

County voters will decide whether to reduce the size of the legislature, and voters will select judges in the 6th and 7th judicial districts.
