The Homer girls basketball team flooded visiting Cincinnatus from the start of the game, taking a 44-2 lead into halftime in a 69-17 win Tuesday night at Homer High School.
Homer dominated from the opening tip, scoring the first 13 points. The Trojans also won the second quarter 31-0, running the fast break efficiently off of Cincinnatus' turnovers.
"It was great to get everyone involved tonight, we played unselfish basketball," Homer head coach Brad Sovocool. "I don't have the assist numbers in front of me, but I'd like to think about half of our baskets were assisted."
Cincinnatus had a more productive second half, tying Homer 9-9 in the third quarter. The Lions even went on a 7-2 run at one point.
Homer's Catherine Apker scored 17 points, putting her at 982 for her career. Apker is just eight points away from breaking 2022 graduate Gracie Patriarco's school record of 990 points, which was set last year.
Catelyn Ensign also scored a career-high 17 points with two made threes and Eila Spanbauer had 11 points off the bench. Madison Singleton pitched in eight points, Kaylee Darling scored seven points, Anya Gofkowski had four points, Amanda Rood scored three points and Aislynn Cobb scored her first two varsity points in her first career start.
Justice Crane paced Cincinnatus with six points, while Sidney Glover and JuShawna Crane each contributed four points. Larissa Standish had the Lions' two first-half points and Lucy Finch scored one point.
Cincinnatus was without leading scorer and co-captain Cortney Scutt, co-captain Emma Finch and senior Caitlin Standish, all of whom were injured. Sophomore starter Mandi Waltz also injured her knee during the first quarter.
Homer's (6-8) next game is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hannibal. Cincinnatus (6-8) will next play at 6 p.m. Thursday at home against Stockbridge Valley.
