Influenza cases have increased 44% in the past week in Tompkins County, and COVID-19 cases are up 47% in the past two weeks, reports Tompkins County Whole Health, the county’s public health department.
The county saw 59 new COVID cases in the past week, and 21 new cases of the flu.
“Please take the following steps to reduce your risk of getting or sharing respiratory illnesses this holiday season: wash your hands well and often, get tested if you are experiencing symptoms or have had a recent exposure, stay home if sick, wear a high-quality mask when needed, and get vaccinated for COVID-19 and the flu if you have not already done so,” said Commissioner Frank Kruppa.
COVID-19 test kits can be ordered for free through U.S. Postal Service for delivery to your home. Test kits and KN-95 masks for youth and adults remain free at libraries and municipal centers in Tompkins County, or at the Whole Health office, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 55 Brown Road, Ithaca.
