Three new cases in Cortland County
Cortland County saw three new cases of COVID-19, the state Health Department reported Monday, bringing the county to a total of 11,687 cases since the pandemic began.
Tompkins and Cayuga counties reported 28 new cases, the state reported Monday. The three counties have seen 52,271 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020. The number of people who have died from the virus remains 371.
-- Three new COVID patients were admitted to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center on Sunday, state reported Monday. The hospital had five two COVID patients. Since the pandemic began, 699 Cortland County residents have been hospitalized for COVID. The state Health Department reports 291,655 tests have been administered. The state has reported 123 deaths.
-- Tompkins County saw 23 new cases, the state Health Department reported Monday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 22,735. The state reports 3,028,039 tests have been administered. Eighty-eight Tompkins residents have died.
-- Cayuga County saw five new cases Monday, the state Health Department reported. Confirmed cases rose to 17,851. The state reports 370,207 tests have been administered, and 160 people have died.
Cortland's rate 46 per 100,000
Cortland County had 22 new cases of COVID-19 between June 24 and Thursday, giving it a rate of 46.24 cases per 100,000 people, the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports.
It had a “low” risk, under CDC guidelines. Under metrics and guidance from the CDC — which take into account the number of new cases in a week, the number of hospitalizations and hospital capacity:
-- In counties with a “high risk,” wearing a mask in indoor public places is still recommended.
-- In counties with a “medium risk,” people with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. People at a high risk for severe illness should consult their healthcare provider about the need for a mask or other precautions.
-- In counties with a “low risk,” no additional precautions beyond staying up to date with vaccines and getting tested if one has symptoms are recommended.

171,217 received COVID vaccine
The state Health Department reports 30,195 Cortland County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 63.5% of the county’s total population. A total of 59.8% of the county has been fully vaccinated, and 63.1% of the eligible population has received a booster.
In Tompkins County, 92,472 people have received at least one dose, or 90.5% of the population; 80.2% are fully vaccinated and 83.4% of the eligible population has been boosted.
In Cayuga County, 48,550 residents have received at least one dose, or 63.4% of the population; 59.7% are fully vaccinated and 62.8% of the eligible population has been boosted.
Across the state, 17.7 million people have received at least one dose, or 91.1% of the population. A total of 77.8% have received two doses and 53.7% of the eligible population has been boosted.
