Nine new cases in Cortland County
Cortland County saw nine new cases of COVID-19, the state Health Department reported Friday and Saturday, bringing the county to a total of 11,708 cases since the pandemic began.
Tompkins and Cayuga counties reported 54 new cases, the state reported Friday and Saturday. The three counties have seen 52,440 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020. The number of people who have died from the virus remained 372.
Cortland's rate 40 per 100,000
Cortland County had five new cases of COVID-19 between July 1 and Thursday, giving it a rate of 39.93 cases per 100,000 people, the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports.
It had a “low” risk, under CDC guidelines. Under metrics and guidance from the CDC — which take into account the number of new cases in a week, the number of hospitalizations and hospital capacity:

171,475 received COVID vaccine
The state Health Department reports 30,212 Cortland County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 63.5% of the county’s total population. A total of 59.8% of the county has been fully vaccinated, and 61.9% of the eligible population has received a booster.
In Tompkins County, 92,690 people have received at least one dose, or 90.7% of the population; 80.3% are fully vaccinated and 60.8% of the eligible population has been boosted.
In Cayuga County, 48,573 residents have received at least one dose, or 63.4% of the population; 59.7% are fully vaccinated and 62.8% of the eligible population has been boosted.
Across the state, 17.7 million people have received at least one dose, or 91.2% of the population. A total of 77.9% have received two doses and 49.9% of the eligible population has been boosted.
