Cortland County reports 3 new COVID cases
Cortland County reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the number of confirmed cases rising to 4,551.
In all, eight new cases were reported in Cortland, Tompkins and Cayuga counties, bringing to 15,104 the number of people who have contracted coronavirus since the pandemic began in March 2020. No new deaths were reported, the number of people who have died from the virus remaining at 207.
- The Cortland County Health Department was monitoring 125 patients, 48 of them confirmed positive. Eight people are hospitalized. Since the pandemic began, 214 people have been hospitalized. The Cortland County Health Department has received 121,642 negative test results. The county has reported 63 deaths.
- Tompkins County reported two new cases Wednesday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 4,325, reports the state Health Department. A total of 2,376,253 people have been tested. Fifty-two Tompkins residents have died.
- In Cayuga County, the state Health Department reported three new cases Wednesday. Confirmed cases remained 6,316. The state reports 195,177 people have been tested. Ninety-two people have died, the state reports.
Colleges
- SUNY Cortland last reported a new case among students May 13, but a case among staff on May 20. No people were in isolation or in quarantine. It has reported 468 cases since Jan. 16, but that includes positive cases of all SUNY Cortland students anywhere, not necessarily those in Cortland. Campus testing has shown 323 cases this semester and none among students in the past 14 days, and one among employees. It reported 781 cases between Aug. 26 and Jan. 9, college and State University of New York data show.
- Cornell University reported no new cases Monday or Tuesday. The number of cases since Aug. 15 is 1,089 — with three new cases since May 26. Its two-week rolling positivity rate was 0.04%.
- Tompkins Cortland Community College last reported a case May 15. The total was 31 cases since Aug. 1. The college has tested 5,703 people as of Wednesday.

Since the school year began, here are how many cases of COVID-19 have been reported at schools, according to the New York State Health Department.
126,373 receive COVID vaccine
The state Health Department has reported that 22,275 Cortland County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 46.6% of the county’s total population and 55.1% of its adults. A total of 40.8% of the county has been fully vaccinated.
In Tompkins County, 67,593 people have received at least one dose, or 65.8% of the population and 73.6% of its adults; 58.6% are fully vaccinated. Cayuga County has seen 36,505 people with at least one dose, or 47.3% of the population and 56.3% of its adults; 41.4% are fully vaccinated.
Statewide, 10.74 million people have received at least one dose, or 53.8% of the state’s population and 65.5% of its adults; 46.1% of the total population and 57.3% of adults are fully vaccinated.
