Cortland County: 12 new cases

Cortland County saw 12 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, the state Health Department reported Sunday, bringing the county to a total of 11,476 cases since the pandemic began.

Tompkins and Cayuga counties reported 139 new cases over the weekend, the state reported Sunday. The three counties have seen 50,761 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020. The number of people who have died from the virus remains 362.

- Three new COVID patients were admitted to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center Thursday, but none Friday or Saturday, the state reported Sunday. The hospital had seven COVID patients. Since the pandemic began, 677 Cortland County residents have been hospitalized for COVID. The state Health Department reports 285,598 tests have been administered. The state has reported 121 deaths.

- Tompkins County saw 120 new cases over the weekend, the state Health Department reported Sunday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 21,726. The state reports 3,011,368 tests have been administered. Eighty-six Tompkins residents have died.

- Cayuga County 19 new cases, the state Health Department reported Sunday. Confirmed cases rose to 17,559. The state reports 362,262 tests have been administered, and 155 people have died.

Cortland County rate now at 208 per 100,000

Cortland County reported 99 new cases of coronavirus from May 14 to Friday. The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Cortland has 208.07 new cases per 100,000 people over the past week.

Under metrics and guidance from the CDC — which take into account the number of new cases in a week, the number of hospitalizations and hospital capacity — Cortland County was listed as having a “medium risk” of transmission. Tompkins remained a high risk; Cayuga was a medium risk:

- In counties with a “high risk,” wearing a mask in indoor public places is still recommended.

- In counties with a “medium risk,” people with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. People at a high risk for severe illness should consult their healthcare provider about the need for a mask or other precautions.

- In counties with a “low risk,” no additional precautions beyond staying up to date with vaccines and getting tested if one has symptoms are recommended.

163,922 receive COVID vaccine

The state Health Department reports 29,450 Cortland County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 61.6% of the county’s total population. A total of 58.2% of the county has been fully vaccinated, and 73% of the eligible population has received a booster.

In Tompkins County, 85,054 people have received at least one dose, or 82.7% of the population; 75.7% are fully vaccinated. and 75.5% of the eligible population has been boosted.

In Cayuga County, 49,418 residents have received at least one dose, or 64.1% of the population; 59.9% are fully vaccinated and 72.8% of the eligible population has been boosted.

Across the state, 16.6 million people have received at least one dose, or 90.5% of the population. A total of 77.3% have received two doses.
