2 new cases in Cortland
Cortland County saw two new cases of COVID-19, the state Health Department reported Friday, bringing the county to a total of 11,653 cases since the pandemic began.
Tompkins and Cayuga counties reported 31 new cases, the state reported Friday. The three counties have seen 51,992 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020. The number of people who have died from the virus remains 369.
-- No new COVID patients were admitted to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center on Thursday, state reported. The hospital had two COVID patients. Since the pandemic began, 693 Cortland County residents have been hospitalized for COVID. The state Health Department reports 290,585 tests have been administered. The state has reported 123 deaths.
-- Tompkins County saw 25 new cases, the state Health Department reported Friday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 22,545. The state reports 3,025,024 tests have been administered. Eighty-seven Tompkins residents have died.
-- Cayuga County saw six new cases, the state Health Department reported Friday. Confirmed cases rose to 17,794. The state reports 368,689 tests have been administered, and 159 people have died.

165,383 received COVID vaccine
The state Health Department reports 29,492 Cortland County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 61.7% of the county’s total population. A total of 58.3% of the county has been fully vaccinated, and 61.1% of the eligible population has received a booster.
In Tompkins County, 86,383 people have received at least one dose, or 84% of the population; 76.8% are fully vaccinated. and 62.6% of the eligible population has been boosted.
In Cayuga County, 49,508 residents have received at least one dose, or 64.2% of the population; 60.1% are fully vaccinated and 60.9% of the eligible population has been boosted.
Across the state, 16.67 million people have received at least one dose, or 90.9% of the population. A total of 77.7% have received two doses, and 53.8% of the eligible population has been boosted.

Cortland at 42 cases per 100,000
Cortland County had 20 new cases of COVID-19 between June 17 and Thursday, giving it a rate of 42.03 cases per 100,000 people, the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports.
It had a "low" risk, under CDC guidelines. Under metrics and guidance from the CDC — which take into account the number of new cases in a week, the number of hospitalizations and hospital capacity:
-- In counties with a “high risk,” wearing a mask in indoor public places is still recommended.
-- In counties with a “medium risk,” people with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. People at a high risk for severe illness should consult their healthcare provider about the need for a mask or other precautions.
-- In counties with a “low risk,” no additional precautions beyond staying up to date with vaccines and getting tested if one has symptoms are recommended.
