1 new case in Cortland
Cortland County saw one new case of COVID-19, the state Health Department reported Wednesday, bringing the county to a total of 11,646 cases since the pandemic began.

Tompkins and Cayuga counties reported 23 new cases, the state reported Wednesday. The three counties have seen 51,926 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020. The number of people who have died from the virus remains 369.

-- One new COVID patient was admitted to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center on June 17, and one Sunday, the state reported. The hospital had three COVID patients. Since the pandemic began, 691 Cortland County residents have been hospitalized for COVID. The state Health Department reports 290,323 tests have been administered. The state has reported 123 deaths.
-- Tompkins County saw 19 new cases, the state Health Department reported Wednesday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 22,496. The state reports 3,024,073 tests have been administered. Eighty-seven Tompkins residents have died.
-- Cayuga County saw four new cases, the state Health Department reported Wednesday. Confirmed cases rose to 17,784. The state reports 368,301 tests have been administered, and 159 people have died.

165,353 received COVID vaccine
The state Health Department reports 29,487 Cortland County residents have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, or 61.7% of the county’s total population. A total of 58.3% of the county has been fully vaccinated, and 61.2% of the eligible population has received a booster.

In Tompkins County, 86,371 people have received at least one dose, or 84% of the population; 76.8% are fully vaccinated. and 62.6% of the eligible population has been boosted.

In Cayuga County, 49,495 residents have received at least one dose, or 64.2% of the population; 60.1% are fully vaccinated and 60.9% of the eligible population has been boosted.

Across the state, 16.66 million people have received at least one dose, or 90.9% of the population. A total of 77.6% have received two doses, and 53.8% of the eligible population has been boosted.

Cortland at 48 cases per 100,000
Cortland County had 23 new cases of COVID-19 between June 15 and Tuesday, giving it a rate of 48.34 cases per 100,000 people, the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports.

It had a "low" risk, under CDC guidelines. Under metrics and guidance from the CDC — which take into account the number of new cases in a week, the number of hospitalizations and hospital capacity:

-- In counties with a “high risk,” wearing a mask in indoor public places is still recommended.
-- In counties with a “medium risk,” people with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. People at a high risk for severe illness should consult their healthcare provider about the need for a mask or other precautions.
-- In counties with a “low risk,” no additional precautions beyond staying up to date with vaccines and getting tested if one has symptoms are recommended.
