Four local teams are competing in the Section III softball postseason, with Cincinnatus earning the top seed in Class D and McGraw the No. 4 seed, Tully earning the No. 6 seed in Class C and Cortland the No. 8 seed in Class A.
Cincinnatus finished the regular season with a record of 12-3, earning a bye and a home game at 5 p.m. Thursday against the winner of No. 8 Lyme (7-9) and No. 9 Brookfield (4-8), which play at 5 p.m. today. The Lions defeated Brookfield 3-0 on April 15 and 3-2 on May 9, but have not seen Lyme. The semifinals of the Class D tournament take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and the finals at 5 p.m. next Wednesday, with all games taking place at Carrier Park Field in Syracuse. One of Cincinnatus’ three losses this season came to No. 2 Stockbridge Valley (10-3), who the Lions could meet in a potential sectional final. Cincinnatus is looking to win a girls sectional title for the third season in a row.
No. 4 McGraw (9-6) takes on No. 13 Hamilton at 5 p.m. today at the Blodgett Mills Softball Field. Today’s winner takes on the winner of No. 5 Oriskany (17-2) and No. 12 Alexandria (3-11) at 5 p.m. Thursday, with the higher seed hosting. The Eagles have not played either of the three teams this season, but there is a possibility of meeting Cincinnatus in the semifinals if both teams keep winning.
No. 6 Tully (10-5) hosts No. 11 Cooperstown (12-7) at 5 p.m. today at Tully High School. The winner meets the winner of No. 3 Cato-Meridian (12-2) and No. 14 Westmoreland at 5 p.m. Thursday, with the highest seed hosting. The semifinals and finals of the Class C tournament take place at Carrier Park Field in Syracuse, with the semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday and the final at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Black Knights and Hawkeyes have not met this season, nor do they have games against the same opponent.
No. 8 Cortland (7-9) earned a home game against No. 9 Oneida (6-12) at 5 p.m. today at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex. The winner heads to take on No. 1 seed Camden (16-2) at 5 p.m Thursday at Camden Central School. The semifinals take place at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and the final at 5 p.m. Tuesday, all at Onondaga Community College. Cortland and Oneida have not played this season or met the same opponent. The Purple Tigers ended the season with tough back-to-back losses to Chittenango and the Express have lost 11 of their last 13 games.
