Arnold (Arnie) W. Mosch, 82, of Homer, NY, passed away June 9, 2025 after an 8 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
Arnie was born on October 3rd, 1942 in Elmira, NY, the son of Philip and Inez Mosch (Hulslander). He was a graduate of South Side High School in Elmira and received his Bachelors degree from Tri State University in Indiana.
He met the love of his life Pat in 1991 and soon became the most loving father to her daughter Jen, starting a new chapter for the three of them. They were married July 11, 1992 and continued to laugh, dance and support each other until his passing. Not a day went by without Arnie telling Pat she was his “sweetie” or without him making her smile.
Even through his battle with Parkinson’s and dementia, he always found a reason to laugh with his family. Not a day will go by when his smile and laughter won’t be missed in their home. Pat and Jen lovingly cared for him at their home during his final years. Arnie played in a slow-pitch softball league and also in the Tuesday night golf league at Elm Tree Golf Course for many years. He also loved participating in the Tuesday night bowling league at Cort-Lanes, where he met his wife. The friends made through the three sports were lasting companions whom he still managed to remember late into his dementia, a testament to his admiration and appreciation of them. He was also a member of the Cortland Elks and Cortland Jaycees for many years. Arnie had a huge interest in world history, always looking to his set of encyclopedias for answers and watching the History Channel. He really enjoyed learning how to fix and build things and keeping his yard well-kept and cared for. Most of all, he loved teaching Jen the sports of baseball and golf, memories that she holds very near and dear to her heart. Jen and Pat’s final hours with him were spent watching a golf tournament on TV, something they did most Sundays during the Summer.
Arnie held various jobs over the years, but most would remember him from being the owner of Convenient Food Mart on South Main Street in Cortland, NY for 15 year during the 1980s and 1990’s. He retired from Ithaca Big Lots where he served as the furniture manager.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Marilyn (Hank) Schindler. Arnie is survived by his wife Patricia Mosch (O’Leary), daughter Jennifer Foster and their two dogs Lucy and Polly.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law Carl (Connie) Lyman, sister-in-law Terry DeVoe, niece Danielle (Brian) Adkins, great-nieces Sam Humphrey and Grace Adkins, great-nephews Tyler and Leland Adkins, and his loving cousins Marge (Dave) Cox, Ed (Loretta) Korzon, Linda Korzon, Shirley (John) Anderson, John Hulslander, Gary Hulslander, Jon Clark, Lori Clark, Susie Brown, Sandra (Bill) Young, and Nancy (Jack) Parr.
The family would like to thank Caitlin Portzline and the entire amazing staff at the Portzline Adult Daycare Program, the nurses and staff of 2 South at Cortland Guthrie Hospital, the nurses, doctors and aides of Misty Glen at Cortland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the nurses of Cortland/Ithaca Hospicare. The family also thanks Homer Police Officer Ashley Martin for her kindness and The Homer Fire Department for their quick response to the call.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this Summer, date and time TBD.
